Aug 19, 2017 · Knocking in dashboard on passenger side. I have a 2012 Chevy impala. When I open any of the four doors or unlock the doors with the remote there is a knocking noise in the dashboard on the passenger side. Even with no key in the ignition AC turn off fans are turned off it continues to knock. I can walk away from the car and it is still knocking. It would not be from "bad" gas, Only gas with an octane rating lower than your engine requires will cause knocking (detonation) which sounds like marbles rattling around under you hood.
